Things have changed, oh so slightly.

Since my last waffle, we’ve been told we can venture out a bit more, although, like a lot of countries, it’s still not completely clear as to what we can and can’t do and with whom. Best stay at home then. Highlight of the week? I got a new iron. A purple one. I’m gonna call him Jeremy. Makes sense. Apart from that, well the weather has turned from hot to cold and back to hot again, the goats bandied together and tried to eat their way through the gate and……..I got a new iron. Did I mention that already?

We also had a visit from our (what has become) regular visitors to our garden and that is a muster of peacocks (yes the collective noun is muster…..I looked it up) This time, Mr Peacock (I’ve decided to call him Captain) let rip on our garage roof on Sunday morning, pissing off the chickens next door who went nuts. I must tell you, I only noticed he was around whilst sitting on the loo in the bathroom upstairs, which has a window that looks onto the garage roof. At the time I was looking at the sunshine thinking “Oh, it would be lovely to have a BBQ tonight”, when a peacock walked by. Then a noise came that sounded like a muffled foghorn. The Captain is probably quite lucky that I already had chicken in the fridge because he was bloody loud but having summoned his troop, they meandered back home, a few houses down.

Recently, I seem to have become a bit obsessed with making flat breads. They’re very quick and easy and because they are fresh and warm, a little hard to resist. As I have been trying, of late, to reduce the amount of flour I eat, this is a problem. So, to compensate I have been making flour free muffins. These are also good for using up your old bananas so if your fed up with banana bread, these are for you. Easy to make, lovely and moist and great for breakfast if you’re wanting something quick because you can keep them in the freezer. You can also experiment with the flavours.

At the weekend, I decided to try something new (no, not that) I was inspired by a recipe I had found using chickpeas. To be honest, I have seen a few of these online but had never bothered because I always use my chickpeas for hummus. This time I sacrificed the dip for a cake with mixed results. What I finished with was gorgeous, but I don’t think it was supposed to be that type of gorgeous. It was supposed to be a torte but I ended up with a decadent flan base.

I shall try again and leave the cake in for a little longer as I don’t believe it had cooked through enough, plus I might add some baking powder but I’ll keep you posted.

By the way, my procrastinating is going very well. I've had Jeremy the iron for 6 days now and I've still not used him.......he's very pretty though.
